Difficult Decisions Lead to Great Destinations

Growing up, I was obsessed with the Hunger Games series. I have read the series several times, I used to know every trivia question and answer there was, and knew any random fact about the characters and plot of the stories for years. The Hunger Games is a competitive and heartfelt story, where the two main characters, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, must compete and fight for their lives in a deadly competition. The capital of Panem is in charge of twelve districts, in which they force these “districts” to select two individuals to compete in a televised contest called The Hunger Games, where they are forced to witness their citizens fight to the death, until only one person remains standing. The two individuals selected must work together to fight for their district, and both characters make tough decisions that are best for them and for their game.
Katniss Everdeen is a brave, hardworking, and competitive individual who would do anything for her sister and mother. When the districts are selecting the two individuals that will compete in The Hunger Games, Primrose Everdeen is selected. Katniss is completely shocked and bewildered, and makes the decision to sacrifice herself for her sister. This was a huge choice that she didn’t think twice on because she adored and had so much love for her sister, she acted on it to protect Primrose. I believe Katniss made a good choice in sacrificing herself, she knew there was a low chance of survival but she volunteered anyways. This shows how brave she is and if I were to be in that situation, I’m sure I would freeze and become extremely emotional. I would do anything for my family, so I understand and respect the difficult choice that Katniss had to make in order to protect her family.
While competing in The Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta make a very difficult decision. Instead of working together to win, they split up and work with different people instead. This was a scary and tough decision, because if one of them died, the other would be on their own to win. It was also a tough choice because they had nobody to trust but themselves, as it was everyone against one another. Towards the end, Peeta and Katniss are both still alive, which allows them to team up and fight together. Like any competition, only one remains and is crowned the winner. After a long fight, Peeta and Katniss are the final two standing- which is amazing as they are from the same place and making their citizens proud. However, the dilemma arises that one of them must die. Katniss and Peeta both try to sacrifice themselves for one another, but they fall so deeply in love within the competition that they refuse to kill one another. They come to a tough decision- they will both sacrifice themselves at the same time and there will be no winner of the Hunger Games. As they are both about to commit suicide, the games are put to a halt and Katniss and Peeta are declared the winners of The Hunger Games. I honestly think that their tactic was smart. The Hunger Games was just entertainment for those living in the capital, and it was very torturous and gruesome for those competing. With their difficult decision, both of them won the games and were able to return home to their families and be free.
